Alcove & Rethink Partners are the WINNERS of the HTN Major Project Go Live 2021

In the face of Covid lockdown, Alcove, Rethink Partners, Essex, Suffolk and Kent Councils launched an incredible programme, against a backdrop of carers unable to leave their houses, elderly and disabled people being forced to shield, and some unprecedented times. Within 16 weeks we had equipped over 5,000 vulnerable adults with their very own Alcove Video Carephones, so that they could talk to friends, family, carers and other professionals, via video with one touch, (no complicated tablets or phones – and for those without their own internet, nor access to digital tools or skills) when they were unable to meet due to COVID-19 restrictions. 

The strategy was to identify key groups of people, with the most need, to help them stay connected with their friends, family and care services. Our amazing project delivered 2,000 Video Carephones within Essex, 1,700 in Kent and 1,000 in Suffolk, allowing more than 2 million minutes of video calls to be made across more than 30 international countries and 20 states in the USA between carers, loved ones and families. A staggering, unprecedented amount, and therefore the largest and fastest roll out of care technology to older adults in HISTORY!

The Alcove & Rethink Partners teams also trained more than 750 health and care organisations, including those working in care homes and in the community, so they were able to support vulnerable people to use the technology and stay in contact with families and friends when contact was limited. Thanks to the Incredible work over the past year, this collaboration has won the Health Tech Newspaper Award for the best Major Project Go Live 2021!!
